An Author Dedicated to Free Education on SL
Ted William Gross gave a striking reading from his non fiction work, 'Three Weeks in Jenin', on the last Meet an Author show, stunning the audience with an account of his real life experience as an army medic in times of war. Non fiction is just one of his specialities and he also discussed his fiction for children and adults and his award-winning blogs. Ted teaches courses on SL in short story writing, blogging, making ebooks and also Facebook applications and he explained why he is dedicated to free education in the virtual world.
Although he arrived very recently on SL, Ted became familiar with the environment very quickly - not surprising for a partner in a high tech firm specialising in developing Facebook Applications. He began teaching early on, starting at the Written Word on Cookie Island and on the SLNE sim. He has now opened his own free university called The Learning Experience where he will be adding more courses and inviting other tutors to join him.
Ted's courses have been very popular, with a practical emphasis that leads to students creating their own blogs based on his recipes for success, and also to a virtual anthology of short stories from his fiction class. He is one of the past and future Meet an Author guests who have been providing free courses for aspiring writers on Cookie Island and spreading free education out to new buildings across SL. The virtual books created at the end of his short story course will be distributed widely and without charge, and the show will help by putting dispensers in the Meet an Author Bookmarkets in high traffic areas.
